During the first year of life, infants use their senses and motor skills to taste, feel, push, hear, and ability to communicate to comprehend and produce spoken language. The first sub-stage of Piaget’s cognitive development is the sensorimotor period where infants learn through their senses and motor skills. Babies learn language by taking information through their senses of hearing and sight and then learning to process the meanings behind those sights and sounds (Owens, 2020).
